A
renowned naturalist and zoologist, Dr. Al Oeming was director
of the Alberta Game Farm from 1958 - 1998, drawing visitors from
around the globe.
A familiar
face across rural Canada, for more than four decades he toured
elementary schools throughout the country with his tame cheetah
‘Tawana’ presenting award-winning nature films and
promoting conservation.
One of Dr.
Oeming’s great passions is the study of the wonderful creations
of the horse era. His collection activities span more than 50
years and he has been conducting annual horse-drawn carriage and
sleigh auctions for over 25 years now. Twice a year, in the spring
and fall, a major auction is presented on the old Game Farm site
off highway 14, just 25 km east of Edmonton. These auctions have
become well known for their incredible quality, history and variety.
A fascinating collection of horse related antiques is also offered
at each auction. Dr. Oeming invites all horse enthusiasts to attend
his next auction
and marvel at the skills and the fascinating historical legacy
our pioneer ancestors gave us.
